Training & Education

Mapping of steps from reward dysregulation to habitual alcohol use upon a simplified representation of circuits whereby glutamate-DA interactions occur. Glutamatergic projections are blue, DA projections are violet. The striato-cortical projections are in blue to reflect the striatal modulation of thalamo-cortical glutamatergic projections.

The training mission of the CTNA is integral to its overall academic mission, and consists of both local and regional activities. The training mission is to increase education on alcoholism, both through research training and through more general dissemination for professional and lay audiences.

Research Seminars

CTNA seminars are typically held every other Thursday at 4:00 p.m., at the VA in West Haven, Building 35 Lower Level Conference Room. Topics include preliminary findings from main projects and pilots, proposals for new studies, and other presentations related to addictive processes and the CTNA mission. Please contact Kelly DeMartini (kelly.demartini@yale.edu) if you would like further information or to be added to the seminar email list. Please check our CTNA calendar for upcoming events and seminars.

International Conference on Applications of Neuroimaging to Alcoholism (ICANA)

The first and second International Conferences on the Application of Neuroimaging to Alcoholism (ICANA) are highly acclaimed CTNA achievements. ICANA-1, January 2004 was distinguished as a landmark meeting by the Journal of the American Medical Association (Vastag, 2004). It was supported by an NIAAA Conference Grant, an ABMRF grant, and donations from corporate sponsors. ICANA-2 was held in January 2008, with support from an NIAAA Conference Grant. Each conference brought together more than one hundred investigators from around the world to review the state-of-the-art imaging related to alcoholism.
